Mike Kernaghan (1969-73) won his third national bowls title in Dunedin this week, snaring the pairs' crown with Dave Archer.
Having retired three years ago when he was appointed as the chief executive of Triathlon New Zealand, Kernaghan made a return to partner Archer in his old home town. He had previously won the national singles title in 2001 and 2002.
Kernaghan, representing Auckland's Onehunga Club, and Archer (Taieri) beat Sean O'Neill (Kia Toa) and fellow Otago Boys' Old Boy Paul Girdler (Leith, 1977-80) 14-13 in a tense final.
Kernaghan is a former national league football player and is currently employed as assistant chief executive of Soccer New Zealand.
