Ben Nowell - three tries against South Canterbury. A better look if the playing colours were blue and gold! |
Ben Nowell (1999-2003) – continues to make an impression with Canterbury rugby.
A straight and strong-running midfield back in the First XV in his final year at school, Ben scored a try on debut in last year’s Ranfurly Shield defence against Marlborough and today was the man of the match with a three-try haul in the 80-15 rout of South Canterbury, that game also a Ranfurly Shield defence for the red and blacks.
Ben boarded at School House with the family farm in the Hakataramea Valley, not far from where fellow rugby playing Old Boys Richie McCaw (1994-98) and Tim Boys (1997-2002) grew up.
