New Foundation Chairman
The Otago Boys' High School Foundation has a new Chairman.
Dunedin financial strategist Greg Strang (1983-87) has taken the reins from Jonathan Usher (1983-87) as the Foundation launches into its third year.
After several years with the Foundation, serving firstly on the initial steering committee and then as the first Chairman of its Board, Jonathan stepped down at yesterday's annual meeting. He has also relinquished the Chairmanship of the Otago High School Old Boys' Society, which he has guided for the last seven years.
Also elected to the Board at yesterday's meeting was National Bank Business Banking manager Andrew Moffat (1974-77) while Paul Moodie, Norcombe Barker (1982-86) and Phillip Rasmussen were all re-elected.

Dinner with Merv Hughes

Tickets are selling quickly for the Foundation’s dinner on Wednesday, October 3rd featuring Australian cricketing character Merv Hughes.
More than 220 tickets have already been booked and the event seems certain to be a sell-out. The dinner will be open to the public and will be advertised as such later in early-September.
However, Old Boys, their families, friends and contacts have a further period of preferential booking rights. If you’re keen to be part of a terrific night of entertainment, please make contact with the Foundation office (‘phone: 03/4778977, mobile: 027/4370335, email: info@obhsfoundation.co.nz)
Merv is a larger than life entertainer and his reputation as an after-dinner speaker precedes him.
The dinner will be hosted in the Dunedin Convention Centre, Melville Street, Dunedin with tickets priced at $80 - this including a three-course meal, pre-dinner drinks, wine, beer and non-alcoholic refreshment at the table, Merv’s humour and an excellent night’s entertainment. To keep prices to a minimum, a cash bar will operate once the complimentary service ends.
Finding our fellow Old Boys
* Progress in finding our Old Boys continues to be solid.
However, we are still well behind the 8 ball when it comes to a complete, up to date and accurate database of the school’s alumni.
While we’ve ‘found’ a little more than 4,000 Old Boys in the last 12 months, we still only know where about 25% of the 16,500 living alumni are.
Everyone will know the whereabouts of at least one other Old Boy. Please take the time to send those contact details (email, postal address or telephone number) and I’ll follow through from there. If we all found one ‘lost’ boy and that was replicated as others were unearthed, the tracking process would be complete in next to no time.
Thanks for any assistance you’re able to provide.
We’ve lost contact with Nigel Rutherford (1985-89), last known address being Tubbermore Road, County Dublin, Ireland; Cyril Ashby (1956-59), last known address being Blackhead Road, Green Island, Dunedin; and Christopher Shaw (1972-74), who was listed as working in the Orokonui area. If you have the latest contact details for any of these Old Boys, please pass them on to the Foundation.
With the 150th anniversary of Otago Boys now just six years away and a register – a snap shot in time – to be produced to mark the occasion, it is vital we determine the whereabouts of each and every one of our alumni. Thank you.
Reunions
* A reminder to those in the 1957 intake. Your 50th Reunion will be hosted in Dunedin on 12th and 13th October. Further details are available through Lawrie Currie (‘phone: 03/5475226 or email: lawrie-denise@xtra.co.nz

Again, further details are available by contacting the weekend’s organisers – Ross Graham (‘phone: 0061 2 96887505; email: rmgraham1@aapt.net.au) or Michael Esdaile (‘phone: 09/4104340; email: mail@takeme2.net)
And plans are underway to host a 50th Reunion of the 1958 intake in Dunedin over the weekend of 12th, 13th and 14th September 2008. Bob McKillop is working on a programme and details will be released in short order.
