Our City of Dunedin was established in 1848, and as early as 1856 James Macandrew moved to establish the High School of Dunedin .
His plan came to fruition in 1863 with the establishment of the Otago Boys’ and Otago Girls’ High School. Finally, in 1885, Rector William Macdonald and 288 boys occupied our iconic Henry Lawson building ‘above the city’.
The intervening years have seen Otago Boys’ become one of the great schools of our country. Our Old Boys have gained eminence in every field of endeavour in New Zealand and overseas, a trend that continues and is enhanced year by year.
The Old Boys of the 21 st century have a responsibility to ensure that our School is provided with the means to enable it to retain its prime position in New Zealand ’s education system, and we now have a Foundation that will enable us to do this.
I commend the Foundation to your generosity.
