The formation of the Otago Boys’ High School Foundation in June 2005 may well be one of the most significant developments in the school’s history.
As the years roll by and we look back on the Foundation’s growth and benefits it provides to the future of the school and its young men, there seems every prospect its establishment will be heralded as a genuine watershed.
I was delighted to attend the official launch dinner and to say a few words about my time at the school and what has unfolded in the intervening years. It was a truly special occasion, catching up with old school mates and former masters, and to see at first hand the vision those leading the Foundation have for Otago Boys’ in the decades ahead.
Time doesn’t stand still and we all need to change and adapt to ensure progress is maintained. Otago Boys’ is no different with past and present funding structures allowing nothing more than a treading of water or mere survival in the future.
The Foundation’s fund – built through donations and pledges from Old Boys, an exciting events and functions schedule, and other business ventures – will give Otago Boys’ High School a genuine edge as it faces the challenges posed in the years ahead.
I’m an enthusiastic supporter of the Foundation and as all Old Boys ponder their own involvement, I urge them to reflect on their own time at the school as well as cast an eye ahead to the needs of the future.
